I hooked up my 515 last week, and yesterday tries to upgrade the firmware to the new release using a USB drive. When I came back to the unit, it was powered off, and will not power on. I've tried unplugging it and plugging back in again, but with no effect.
It seems like the receiver is going to Amplifier protection mode and shuts off. What you need to do is disconnect everything from the back of this receiver and unplug from power for about an hour. After an hour, plug the receiver back in power and DO NOT connect anything to the back except the power cable. Turn the receiver on and put the volume all the way up and see if the receiver shuts off by it self, if it does that mean that there is an internal damage inside the receiver and it will have to be sent in for repair or returned where it was purchased if possible.
If the receiver does not shut off, then a speaker, speaker wire might be damaged and causing this issue, so in that case plug ONLY the Center speaker and turn the receiver back on and put the volume all the way up with nothing playing and check if the receiver shuts off. If it does not then repeat the last step for every speaker to figure out which speaker is causing the receiver to enter Amp protect mode.
That course of action has had no effect. I had two speakers attached, and a CD player. Disconnecting all three and leaving unpowered for a while did not cause it to start up again. It still is powerless.

Hello Again bcochrane;
Who was the authorized dealer of purchase for this receiver? If this receiver was purchased from a U.S. authorized dealer/reseller- it will need to be serviced in an authorized Onkyo USA service center. If the unit was sold by an authorized Onkyo Canada dealer/reseller; it too will need to be serviced at an authorized Onkyo Canada service center.
If you are a Canadian customer who purchased their receiver from an Onkyo USA authorized dealer/reseller and now seek warranty repair at an Onkyo Canadian service center; the service center may NOT accept the unit for warranty repair. The same scenario will comply for Onkyo USA customers seeking repairs in neighboring Canadian service facilities. To actually have this accomplished; you and the authorized service center will need to contact the Onkyo USA Parts & Services department regarding this issue and it will be to there discretion if any accommodations can be provided. Note: you will be responsible for any shipping/ VAT duties charges accrued from shipping your receiver between countries in lieu of having your receiver serviced at one of our many regional/ local national service centers.
If you have any further questions; please contact the Onkyo USA Parts and Services department via phone Mondays- Fridays 9am-5pm EST (800-229-1687 OPTION 4) or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) for further clarification and assistance.
