So I have the TX NR-727 and for about a week, when I watch cable, I notice that the sound goes crazy. So for starters, that click you hear when the receiver is switching "modes" DTS, TrueDD, DDS, (I honestly Don't know the correct abbreviations but I hope you understand what i'm trying to say) happens a lot when I turn the cable on. The volume starts out soft so I turn it up. Then it gets crazy loud so I switch it back down. When a commercial comes on, its insanely loud. When I use netflix, this doesn't happen. I understand cable can use multiple different codec. The movie might be DDS, the commercials might be stereo. So I assume it would switch depending on if the movie or commercial was on. I've already had to have it serviced about a year ago(HDMI Out) went out. Does this sound like a receiver problem or maybe a comcast problem?
Different broadcasts have different codecs used. If you are hearing a click during a broadcast change, the audio codec being used is different and the receiver is accommodating. The symptoms you describe do not sound like a receiver problem, especially if the issues are directly correlate to one source.
Thanks for your reply. I was hoping it was a comcast issue. I may go get a new box and see if that helps. Any recommendations for me to mimic the codec that xfinity uses to try and narrow it down to the box/service?
The receiver is not going to "Mimic" the codec it is going to process the codec that is is being sent to it. If you set the receiver to a different listening mode the receiver will add additional processing over the codec.
Setting the receiver to "Direct" listening mode will minimize any post-processing over a given codec.
