I have a 545 receiver which I just got for Christmas and has been awesome except that I am having a problem with HDR 4K signals. One of the reasons I bought it is that it said it fully supported HDR 4K pass through and was HDCP 2.2 compliant.
I have a FireTV 4K connected to the 1st HDMI input on the receiver. The output goes to a LeEco (Vizio) X55 4K HDR TV. If I am playing normal non-HDR 4K content on the FireTV such as 4K youtube videos or netflix non-HDR 4K content, it works perfectly when sent through the receiver. However, if I select an Ultra HD 4K HDR source program, such as Amazon originals (Grand Tour, Man in the high castle, etc) or Netflix Ultra HDR 4K content (have tried all of them), the Amazon FireTV says "Optimizing for Ultra HD Playback" and then starts playing as I can hear the audio, but the TV goes blank and says "No Signal".
However, if I plug the FireTV 4K directly into the same cable that goes from the receiver to the TV, then everything works perfectly (except no receiver audio, obviously). The FireTV says "Optimizing for Ultra HD Playback" and then immediately the picture shows up perfectly. I have tried other HDMI cables and even bought some new ones that are high end 2.0 hi speed and connected those from the FireTV to the receiver and it does not help. But if I plug that cable directly from the FireTV to the TV it works fine (but then I get no audio unless I use optical PCM from the TV back to the receiver). So its not any of the cables. I have tried all 3 of the HDCP 2.2 inputs on the receiver and all do the same thing.
I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware update for the receiver. My FireTV 4K is also up to date. I have a 2nd FireTv 4K in another room that I swapped out and it does the same thing. There are no other settings in the video output on the FireTV 4K for 4K other than 4K auto detect. I have also tried all 3 of the 4K HDMI inputs on the TV. They all work when directly connected but will say "No Signal" as soon as any HDR content starts to play through the receiver.
Is there a setting in the receiver that I need to change to get it to pass through HDR? I have looked through all the menus and tried all the HDMI options and nothing seems to help.
The latest HDMI specification and HDCP 2.2 compatibility support the latest formats and technologies planned for Hollywood content. This latest HDMI spec offers a significant increase in bandwidth (up to 18Gbps) to support new features such as 4K@50/60 (2160p), which is 4 times the clarity of 1080p/60 video resolution, and 4:4:4 color space.
The TX-NR545 enables transmission of High Dynamic Range (HDR) formats, and provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image."
Hello delliott00, I am very sorry. The spec sheet that I was reviewing was not complete. I spoke with an engineer and what we are suggesting is to contact us at 800-229-1687 option #3. There is a procedure that we have developed that could resolve your issue. Thank you, FM9
