I have had my receiver for nearly 5 years. It was the only item that I did NOT buy an extended warranty for as I purchased it in a spate, later transaction for the rest of my HT.
While under warranty, I had the HDMI board repaired twice, both time for issues with specific HDMI inputs, and once for a left speaker output issue.
Last night, the HDMI out function ceased working. When I switch between input sources, HDMI will flash on the screen, and the television just displays NO SIGNAL FOUND. Connecting the individual components directly to the TV's HDMI port shows that the TV is fine.
Having had so many issues with this receiver, I am hesitant to pay to have it repaired. Based on this thread, it appears that Onkyo knows that this model has HDMI issues. It is my understanding that the HDMI board was sourced out through Toshiba.
Do I have any chance of having this repair covered? If not, I'll likely choose not to pay for repair, but simply replace my receiver. It is unlikely that I would go with another Onkyo as the HDMI feature seems to be a weak link.
Please let me know if I should bother contacting the Parts and Repair department, or if I am simply too far out of warranty. I actually expected this unit to last closer to 15-20 years, so it is a but disappointing.
